He saves the house from a robbery in one scene, but shoots to scare the robber away. Seven years later, Tre is doing well for himself: He stays out of trouble gets good grades and has a girlfriend named Brandi, but their relationship is somehow deteriorating over Tre's desire to have sex, while Brandi, a devout Catholic, wishes to wait until after marriage.
She eventually agrees to have intercourse with Tre after he is threatened by a self hating African American cop, who responded to the robbery years earlier. The biggest challenge to Furious' fatherhood is when Tre's friend Ricky is shot to death. Here is where the tough part of being a good father comes in. Tre takes Furious' gun and his father, albeit in a rather nasty and profane way, tries to convince him to turn in the gun, telling him that he will be going down a road of violence if he does this.
Tre seems to relent, but Brandi and Furious catch Tre sneaking out of his bedroom window to join Ricky's half-brother Doughboy. That night, as the gang drives across the city, Tre asks to be let out of the car and returns home, realizing that his father was right to keep him from falling into an endless cycle of violence. When Tre gets home, Furious is waiting for him. You bad. You gotta shoot somebody now, huh? Well, here I am. Come on, shoot me. You bad, right?

Give me the motherfucking gun, Tre! You're my only son, and I'm not gonna lose you to no bullshit, you hear? I love you, man. Go clean yourself up. Go on. Furious Styles : Would you two knuckleheads come on. I want you all to take a look at that sign up there. See what it says: cash for your home. Do you know what that is? Ricky : A billboard. Tre Styles : A billboard. The relationship between Furious and his son is complex and engaging: A father who is battling to save his son from a similar fate — fathering a child as a teen.
